A wonderful pair of Antique serpent drop earrings made during the late Victorian era, Circa 1880. Each snake head is set with rich red Ruby eyes with an open mouth lined with teeth and a tongue dropper shaped like a heart.
Serpent jewellery was popular during the Victorian era, after Prince Albert gifted the young queen Victoria with a serpent ring during their courtship. The snake came to symbolise an enduring love and friendship.
Each earring is fashioned in 9ct Yellow Gold and displays intricate patterning etched onto the head of each snake. They are both in excellent condition and hang beautifully from long Gold hook wires.
